Amidst ongoing efforts to capture a leopard spotted on Friday in New Delhi’s Neb Sarai area, the elusive animal continues to evade authorities. The operation, involving at least 50 police personnel, persists with drone surveillance aiding in the search, according to officials familiar with the matter.
Forest department officials have strategically deployed drones to scour the area in attempts to track the leopard’s movements. However, as of Monday, there have been no significant developments in locating the animal. A police officer mentioned that the two trap cages set up by the forest department remain in place, yet there’s been no success in luring the leopard into them.
The leopard’s last sighting near a Neb Sarai area farmhouse, situated on the Delhi-Haryana border, occurred on Friday, and its whereabouts remain unknown since then.
To manage the situation, the Neb Sarai police station has deployed approximately 50 personnel round the clock, supervised by the Station House Officer (SHO), to monitor the area. Collaborating with forest department officials, they are actively engaged in strategizing ways to handle the potential presence of the leopard.
Making continuous efforts to ensure public safety, the police are regularly broadcasting announcements – at least three times daily–advising locals on safety protocols and guidelines should they encounter the leopard.
Additionally, the forest department took proactive measures by dispatching two teams comprising 40 personnel each to comb through the jungle areas adjoining the Aravalli Hills range on Saturday, intensifying the search efforts.
