Live Updates from Assembly Elections: Two of Five States Commence Polling Today, Signaling the Start of a Month-Long Electoral Journey with Implications for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
Today marks the commencement of the month-long electoral showdown in Chhattisgarh and Mizoram. In the first phase, voters are casting their ballots for 20 out of the 90 seats in the Chhattisgarh Assembly, while the entire 40-member Mizoram Assembly is undergoing polling in a single phase.
In Chhattisgarh, the electoral battleground is primarily between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, with these two parties as the main contenders. Meanwhile, in Mizoram, a distinctive political landscape emerges as it’s the only state where the BJP and Congress are not the exclusive frontrunners. The Mizo National Front (MNF) and Zoram Peoples’ Movement (ZPM) hold significant sway in the political landscape of this northeastern state.
A total of 174 candidates are competing for seats in Mizoram, while the first phase of Chhattisgarh assembly elections witnesses 223 candidates vying for victory.
The electoral journey continues with the second phase of polling in Chhattisgarh, accompanied by single-phase polling in Madhya Pradesh, both slated for November 17. Rajasthan and Telangana will conduct their single-phase voting on November 23 and November 30, respectively.
The pivotal moment will be the counting of votes, set to take place in all these states on December 3.
