This development comes at an inopportune moment for the government, as the Opposition, fueled by the recent arrest of another minister in a corruption case, has found a new point of attack against the Mamata Banerjee administration.

The Trinamool Congress had previously spearheaded a vigorous campaign against land acquisition for the Nano plant, ultimately leading to the Tatas’ withdrawal from the project. While this agitation had played a pivotal role in bringing the TMC to power and toppling the Left Front government, it now presents a dilemma as the ruling party strives to shed its anti-industry image.
